Frustration with Apple Watch fall detection

Early last month Jason wrote about trading in his Apple Watch for something simpler and less expensive. That got me thinking about my Apple Watch.

I have a Series 4 Apple Watch, which is starting to show its age and will no longer receive watchOS updates. As it nears the end of its life, I’m not sure I want to replace it with a new Apple Watch.

I originally bought the watch for fall detection, as I’ve had a few falls. Unfortunately, it’s never activated when I’ve needed it. For example, it didn't trigger during my recent fall while running with my dog Trix.

Yet, it goes off at the slightest jolt when I’m doing tasks like cleaning up after a storm or stacking firewood. This inconsistency is frustrating. It doesn't work when I need it and goes off when I don’t. So, what's the point?
