Actionable Analytics
I've read a lot of praise for Tinylytics, and I started thinking about adding it to this site. But then I went back to that key principle - what I would do with the data?
A typical analytics package will give you information about:
- How many visits your site gets, maybe by day and time
- How many visits each page and post gets
- Where those visitors appear to come from
- What browser they used
- What operating system they were using
I look at that list and while I think it might be interesting, for me it's not actionable. I wouldn't change anything about what I'm doing based on that data. And if the data isn’t actionable, what would be the point in collecting it?
